The Rhum Academy of Music was founded in April of 2008 by Gary Rhum and is located in Howard County’s old "City Building" in downtown Kokomo. Gary’s dream was to have a music school with a holistic approach to teaching music; offering not only private and group lessons, but also a performance hall and music store dedicated to helping in the success of local musicians.

Gary Rhum is the owner and founder of Rhum Academy and also one of the main music teachers. Gary has been a performer and professional musician for many years and has been teaching in the Kokomo area for over 20 years. The academy’s growing staff of teachers is dedicated in helping offer a variety of lessons on a diverse selection of instruments and styles as well as aspects of music production. Each of our teachers strives to help our students learn and experience the joy of making music. Our goal is to create a “community” of artists and musicians, both young and old, where creativity, expression, and musicianship are encouraged and developed.

We are very proud of our beautiful 2,200 square foot performance hall and meeting space, Wilson Hall. This space is a wonderful venue for our Student Night, one of our most popular events, performances by local and national acts, and also available to rent for banquet and corporate functions. This space is also where many of our group lessons and classes take place and allows many unique opportunities for large group sessions within the academy.

The Rhum Academy is also home to one of the areas best selections of fine crafted acoustic guitars and accessories. We currently are an authorized Breedlove and Santa Cruz guitar dealer and Ultrasound amplifier dealer. We also carry a variety of accessories; everything from strings and picks to cables and DI's. We offer personalized service that allows you to find the perfect instrument, fitted to your specific needs and personality. Gary’s performance experience, along with his understanding of acoustic guitar construction and tone woods, will help you in the process of making such an important purchase.
